Everything I Own Fits In This Backpack

Updated: Jul 7, 2020

Hello, lovelies! It's ya gal Lauryn, but for this blog feel free to call me Kevin, Howie, etc. because I'm back, alright! I know that's the kind of low quality joke you missed in the few months it's been since my introduction post! So, since I literally just created this site, told you who I was, and then pulled a Zayn (too soon and too much boy bands, I get it, I'm done), the topic of this post should be pretty self explanatory.

That's right folks, I'm going to be doing a neat lil peek inside my backpack! Wait, was I supposed to do a huge reveal or something? Oops. Truth is, I've just been too busy with school/work/life to commit to completing my checkout at Urban Outfitters let alone running an entire site. Seriously, that rose quartz face roller has been in my cart for SO LONG. But, while all my other friends are coming back from spring break with tans, I'm still at home with the flu and tbh class sounds pretty good right now because two weeks without them is pretty boring/lonely.

Let's get started, shall we?

Of course, this isn't EVERYTHING that's in it, but this is more of a 'the essentials' Messy Girl Vogue article vibe.

  1. The backpack itself! I used to have a cute floral one that I got on Amazon, however most of us probably know how much walking around with 20 lbs of homework and existential crises freaking hurts. So, my mom invested in this super cute navy Adidas bag for me this year, and I adore it. It's simple, doesn't sag much, and is very hard to rip and stain which are essential characteristics for both babies and messy bitches like me.

  2. The laptop! I'm fortunate enough to go to a uni that (in a way) provides a laptop for each of us. Basically, it's not free but it is convenient. I have the MacBook Pro 18 and while I preferred the last Mac I had better, I still like it better than the HP I once had, mainly because I'm just more familiar with Apple products.

  3. Cute background! I love searching for aesthetically pleasing quotes/images on WeHeartIt in my free time. I love this one because it reminds me when I'm overwhelmed that I can get it all done, but not at once and to take some time for myself.

  4. Planner! (folded spiral book) So, I actually just started using a planner this semester because I realized most of the other students were and that might be for a useful reason? Previously, I had just used my Google Calendar but that gets full and annoying quick. Still getting used to the commitment of writing everything in this, but it is very helpful when I do. Also, so satisfying to cross stuff off.

  5. Portfolio/Binder thing! This is also a first for the year, usually I just had an individual folder for each class, but then I would shove stuff in the wrong folder and it was not a good situation. I found this adorable floral 7 pocket portfolio and it has honestly saved me from so much clutter.

  6. Books! Obviously! And while this book is required for me to read for one of my classes, I honestly think everyone should read it, so check it out if you can! Ahmed portrays important topics on intersectionality and feminist politics in an understandable and easy-to-identify with way.

  7. Headphones! I haven't invested in Air Pods yet, so I like to wrap the ones for my laptop around this cute lil air balloon dog phone stand that I keep as a back up for the unfortunate day my pop socket breaks.

  8. Lots of lip stuff! Here I have two eos balms (stripes in coconut, plain is grapefruit I think) because I lose em more than I use em. Also, some Baby Lips for when I'm feeling some extra tint, and Blossom gloss from Forever 21 (strawberry scented with dried flowers in it).

  9. Wall charger, mints, mascara, Kleenex and cough drops! Not much to say on these except these Skinny Girl mints are mocha cappuccino flavored but make your breath smell minty and it blows my mind every time.

  10. Wallet! Tbh, this one has seen better days because my cat decided it would be a fun toy but even though I have lots of others, the amount of effort it takes to switch everything over to a new wallet/bag/purse should not have to be explained.

  11. La Croix! The knock off! Okay, okay. I used also be unimpressed with them, but for a volunteer job I had, my boss always offered them to me and I was thirsty so I accepted, and now I love them. But only grapefruit.

  12. Lotion! This gets its own number just because it's by One Direction and they always deserve their own section, alright? But seriously, Our Moment is the best scent ever invented and if/when they stop making it I will cry.

  13. Finally, lots and lots of other pink stuff! Highlighters, pens, Sharpies, scissors, a calculator, my own tears, they're all pink! Just kidding about the last part but wouldn't that be kinda cool but also really scary?!

Here's another close-up of some of the smaller things. I hope this was somewhat entertaining and promise I'll try to do another sooner rather than later! Also, I know it's been a while but I promised I'd name each post after a song (obviously this isn't everything I own hun) and include some lyrics at the end, so here they are!

"I woke up today, I guess it's good I hadn't finished unpacking all of this in the first place.

The suburbs have abandoned me,I've had the same best friends since '93. I call he's not answering, no, I can't get comfortable on my own street... The creeks in the floorboards are calling out to me, I'm laying here again, with my head on my backpack, wrapped in my hoodie. This is how it is when... Don't say it's up to me, don't say. We moved on again, So I packed all my shit and left home, It's all right to think I still belong to something I don't, 'Cause I can see why you'd think so." - The Wonder Years
